What is Carbon Black?

Carbon Black is an engineered, high-purity paracrystalline carbon material produced through the controlled, high-temperature incomplete combustion of heavy petroleum feedstocks. In contrast to common soot, Carbon Black is highly engineered with precise control over aggregate size, particle surface area, and chemical structure. It serves as a vital reinforcing phase in rubber compounds and provides crucial UV stability, electrical conductivity, and pigmentation properties in plastics, coatings, and inks.

Our primary offerings conform to standard ASTM international grading systems, categorized into reinforcing (Hard Blacks) and semi-reinforcing (Soft Blacks). Hard Blacks (such as N115, N220, N330, and N339) feature smaller primary particles, delivering superior abrasion resistance and tensile strength. Soft Blacks (including N550, N660, N774) offer larger particle sizes and lower surface areas, optimizing elastomer flexibility, processing ease, and physical elasticity.

For heavy-wear tyre applications, reinforcing ASTM grades in the N200 and N300 series are standard choice. Specifically, N220 provides outstanding abrasion resistance and tear strength for heavy truck and passenger vehicle tyre treads. For tyre sidewalls and inner linings, semi-reinforcing grades like N550 and N660 are heavily utilized because they mitigate internal heat build-up while offering excellent dynamic flex-fatigue resistance.

These grades represent a spectrum of surface area and structure: N220 (high surface area, high structure) delivers maximum reinforcement, tensile performance, and wear life. N330 is an intermediate-reinforcing grade offering balanced dispersion and compound processability. N550 is a medium-reinforcing grade with high structural properties, facilitating smoother extrusions and better dimensional stability. N660 provides lower reinforcement, leading to reduced compound viscosity, minimal heat generation, and highly cost-effective high-loading capabilities.
